What is this guy doing in the water? Swimming? Trying to let the wave pass over him so he can continue to swim in peace? Whatever it is, the locals aren’t sure whether to be alarmed or not. Luckily he’s a good swimmer and the waves are not dangerous here. But I bet he’s getting water in his ears … and maybe a little bit of that sand that’s being churned up.
The little boy and girl must be in awe of the wave pummeling the man, maybe imagining the terror they’d feel in his place. See the protective hand of big sister on her little brother?
How good a Mexican holiday looks to me right now as the wind howls outside and the cold rain pelts my windows here at home.

Rather him than me! I’m not a big lover of swimming in the sea despite living on the coast – I like to think of it as a healthy respect for the powers of nature.
But this water is bathtub warm (which is good, except that other creatures like warm water too).
I wouldńt want to go into this ocean! I need it calm like a lake. Same here, looking out of the window, I am dreaming of sandy beaches and sunshine.
OH MY! Looks dangerous.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
No undertow, but you definitely don’t have to wash behind your ears when you come out.
I’m also ready for warmth!!
Can’t come soon enough! It has been a long gray winter here. But the temperatures are creeping up slowly and spring will come soon.
Looks a bit like body surfing gone wrong… and boy I bet that sand is getting to where the sun don’t shine…
For sure it’s getting everywhere. A boogie board would have been fun.
I see this, and I panic. If that were me in the water, I’d be passed out cold by now and probably no more of this earthly world. Awesome photo though, and interesting how it inspires a whole host of scenarios to get a story going!! X
Beyond the surf it’s quite okay and the water is salty enough to float a poor swimmer like me. Even standing vertically in the water, it would float me, but this business of getting tangled up in the surf, well it’s more like getting sandblasted.
Hang in there Anneli! Warmer weather HAS to be getting closer!
I look at this water and reminisce wistfully – and then I remember the shark you saw close to shore and I wonder if I shouldn’t just take a book to the beach instead.
lolololololol…..well, I guess you need to find out if there are a lot of shark there…and if they’ve been naughty!
So far, so good, but the locals told us (on our last visit) that there had recently been a croc gumbooting it across the beach and it wasn’t the usual time for them to be in or near the salt water. When I go to the beach (to swim) I have to psych myself out about all that stuff and pretend it isn’t there. Just like going mushroom picking and not thinking about bears and cougars here at home.
Holy cow! We have alligators here…and when I’m shooting at the rookery, I have to remind myself not to get too close to the bank of the pond….
Those things are fast, and they can leap up to grab you. Couldn’t you take your photos somewhere else? Be careful!!!
I’ve decided that I’m going to go find the funny little squirrels I’m seeing…..I’m just not up for being eaten because I wasn’t paying enough attention!
You’ll be here soon and we’ll be boarding — with boards.
Should I bring my own sign or do you have them there? Keep away, sharks. (Notice the all-important comma. That’s me telling the sharks to keep away.)
That photo looks like the wave is big enough to reach those children. Last week, I put up some warm, sunny photos on my blog for the northerners. Guess I’ll have to find some more. Hang in there. Spring is almost here. Good for you. Sad for me. Winter is the only time I enjoy living in the heat-like-hell-land where I live.
But your winters are probably like our pleasant fall weather. If you had our winters you’d feel differently after a while. I did appreciate the sunny photos on your blog. Keep posting those. It’s still dull and gray and cool here. Thanks for visiting my blog, Lori.
I really like your description of the scene! It really looks nice – so sunny and warm…
It was so wonderfully warm and lovely in the water.
From here it’s hard to look at photos of water and think it isn’t cold!
I understand that, but trust me it was bathtub warm!
